Ghiaccio Glass from the Heat of the Furnace to the Mountain Snow

Ghiaccio Glass from the Heat of the Furnace to the Mountain Snow

This winter we took our Ghiaccio vases on a journey beyond Venice, from the furnace to the snow.

Their story begins in the heat of the furnace in Murano, where glass is shaped while still incandescent and liquid. In that moment, tiny clear glass fragments are fused onto the molten surface.

They soften just enough to attach, creating Ghiaccio’s distinctive crystalline texture, irregular and tactile, catching and reflecting the light.

It is a surface born from heat, yet it naturally recalls ice.

We wanted to see this contrast in a different setting, so we brought the vases from the warmth of the workshop to the stillness of the mountains.

Placed on fresh snow, they seemed perfectly at ease. Under the bright alpine sun, the textured surface shimmered like crushed ice. The rough crystalline layer caught the light, while the smooth transparent glass beneath revealed depth and clarity.

What starts in fire can also belong to frost.

Ghiaccio moves easily between these two extremes. It carries the strength of the furnace in a form that feels at home in winter.

From the furnace to the snow, the journey simply feels right.
