Ghiaccio Rosé Small

Ghiaccio, the Italian word for ice, is the name of this vase and of its effect. The vase is hand-blown in Murano and, while still incandescent, covered with 'granzioli', small fragments of transparent glass that resemble crushed ice. The result is a thick, uneven layer of glass granules that envelops the surface. To highlight the contrast, a portion of the vase is left smooth and uncoated. This vase is handcrafted and signed.

Slight variations may occur due to the artisanal process.

Dimensions: H16 cm x W12 cm

Care: clean with a damp cloth. If the water leaves a mark, a little vinegar on the cloth will remove it.

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE

Granzioli Glass Flakes

This technique takes its name from the tiny fragments of glass that are called Granzioli in Murano’s furnaces.
The making consists of rolling the incandescent glass upon a bed made of transparent glass flakes.
Such technique allowed us to recreate the very same effect that you can observe on the water
surface once the waves gently break on themselves.

DIARY

Ghiaccio Glass Between Fire and Snow

This winter we brought our Ghiaccio vases and glasses from the heat of the furnace to the mountain snow.

Each piece is born in the fire: while the glass is still incandescent, small clear glass fragments fuse onto the hot surface, creating an irregular and luminous texture.

On fresh snow, this surface reflects the light like crushed ice. The contrast between fire and frost highlights its character and material strength.
