Goccia Oceano Onde Large

Inspired by the ancient amphorae, this vase resembles the elongated form of a drop, Goccia in Italian. The glass is first hand-blown in Murano; once cooled, it is cold-carved on the grinding wheel, a technique we call molatura. Onde is the name of this carving: long, flowing ridges that wind horizontally around the vase, like the ripples of the lagoon. The cuts rise and fall, meet and split, so the surface seems set in motion. Each wave is cut by hand and no two are alike. The satin finish and soft edges catch the light, letting the Oceano shade deepen in the hollows and glow on the crests. This vase is handcrafted and signed.

Slight variations may occur due to the artisanal process.

Dimensions: H24 cm x W18 cm

Care: clean with a damp cloth. If the water leaves a mark, a little vinegar on the cloth will remove it.

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE

Cold Carving

The cold carving technique, Molatura, takes its name from the grinding wheel used to carve the cold glass, which in Italian is called "Mola".

Usually cold carving is process used to get rid of the cutting edges of the glass during the finishing phase, but can also be used as decorative tool. The different carvings make the tactile experience one of a kind, also allowing the light to play with the glass surfaces, reflecting colours in a unique way.
